The first signs of summer

The first swallows have arrived back here at Brackenwood. To us, that’s the first sign that summer really is on the way.

They come back every year and nest in the barn and the wood store. If there’s space, their offspring will return as well and if they don’t like the look of it or there isn’t enough room, they will nest within three miles of their birthplace – amazing creatures.

Watching them is truly amazing, they are the pocket rockets of nature and you should be pleased that they are here as they spend most of their time catching flies and bugs. you will see them dipping over the lake as they stoop to drink – spectacular.

There they are – on our roof!

So welcome home and let’s hope that summer is hot on your heels.
