We are located just outside Bude on the Devon/Cornwall coast: Brackenwood, Holsworthy, EX22 7JA.
Hedgehog hideaway
Lakeside glamping shepherds hut with all of the pros and none of the cons…
Sitting in roughly 8 acres and overlooking Brackenwood lake, this bespoke, glamping shepherds hut allows privacy whilst giving you all of the comforts you need for the perfect get-away. Boasting its own toilet (composting WC) with covered, outside, hot shower with basin, (mains connected hot shower and additional composting toilet a short stroll away) as well as decking area, wood-burning stove, a hand-built fire-pit with BBQ grill and seating.
We are proud to support Project Prickles, a local Hedgehog rescue and rehabilitation project. A portion of your payment is donated to them every time you stay, giving you a warm fuzzy feeling just for booking!
Tent camping
Generous 10x10m pitches separated by wildflower beds forpeace and privacy
Only four pitches on site, 3 in our grass covered sand-based (no mud – whatever the weather!) camp area and one grass pitch in it’s own woodland dell.
Each sand-based pitch has its own rock-lined fire-pit and tarp shelter, while the grass pitch has a portable firepit, with no tarp shelter. Both pitch types are less than 50m from the covered washing up area, hot shower and compost loo.
As we are a rewilding site, we take care about what goes into the land, so we provide eco-freindly toiletries (shampoo, shower gel, conditioner and moisturiser) as well as liquid handwash and washing up liquid for use while you are here.
pre-pitched tent
Pitched for you in your preferred location and fully equipped with all you need
Maybe you are new to camping or just don’t want the hassle of setting up? No problem – we pitch the tent for you, blow up the beds, and fully equip it with all the essentials: seating, coolbox, stove, kettle, cookware, crockery, cutlery, utensils, water carrier, washing up bowl, t-towel…and more. All you need to do is bring your own bedding, towels and personal gear.
The tent is a 4 person tent, set up with either 1or two bedrooms, has a generous height so you can stand up and a good sized inside seating area. There is also a porch and poles.
When you leave, there’s no waiting for the tent to dry, just pack your gear and go – the ultimate in easy camping.
Naturally fabulous
We want what we do here to have maximum benefit and minimum impact. As such we have carefully sourced natural toiletries and detergents to compliment your stay. Your amenities will be fully stocked with; shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, liquid hand soap, body lotion, hand sanitiser and washing up liquid. It is all gorgeous stuff and the best bit is that it is much better for the environment – yay!
RESCUE & REWILDING
As a part of protecting and helping to build a wildlife paradise, we have done lots of work to help re-wild and encourage nature to do what she does best – flourish. We have planted over 1000 native trees and hedgerow shrubs so far, cleared a surprising amount of ancient rubbish from the site and removed rocks and stones to help the wildflowers grow. Year on year we are seeing more growth and more wildlife, so we know what we are doing is working. There are plans to re-establish more hedgerows on the borders where we are able to and lots more…
Part of the land is set aside for rescue farm animals; hens, ducks, turkeys, sheep and goats. The hens and ducks that still lay, give the most gorgeous, tasty eggs and what we make from selling them helps us to fund rescuing more and making sure that their home is as safe, secure and enjoyable for them, as possible. If you would like some eggs, then help yourself from the honesty box or just ask us to put some by for you (they sell quickly).

THE BRACKENWOOD TEAM
We believe that Brackenwood is a very special place. It’s home to a huge amount of wildlife but we also have a number of domesticated (kind of!) animals here, who add their own bit of magic…
What to do, first...
At Brackenwood, you are only a stones throw from the Cornish coast in fact you can be on the nearest beach in 14 minutes! Alternatively, if you want breathtaking moorland then that is equally as close. Forests paths, coastal cliff walks, historic tours… it’s all in easy reach from here. Of course there is plenty to see on site and if you want to just kick back and relax then you will find peaceful places to sit and just enjoy. There is an Alpaca meet and greet experience nearby and if you are interested, we can always organise that for you.
